SAT Online Tutoring
Before we directly switch to SAT Tutoring, it’s important to know what it basically is. Below is a general outline.
What is SAT?
“Scholastic Aptitude Test—SAT is a standardized way of measuring/assessing your child’s readiness for college admission.”
The test is conducted by the College Board multiple times in a year and carries no certain age limit.
Why is it necessary/ what are the advantages of taking the SAT?
Most of the universities in the United States (U.S.) along with many other countries across the globe accept SAT scores as a standard for admission. Therefore, SAT is an essential stepping stone in case your child wants to secure a scholarship or admission in a prestigious institution.
What does the SAT format include?
SAT is a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes test which is formatted in a way to assess your child’s abilities. Recently, it’s been completely digitized to make it more accessible and faster than traditional practice.
The format comprises (consists) of two sections:
- Reading/Writing Section
Total time: 64 minutes
It includes 54 MCQs
This section tests your child’s comprehension, grammar, and reasoning skills. It contains short passages with MCQs as mentioned.
- Math Section
Total time: 70 minutes
It includes 44 MCQs
This section covers algebra, geometry, data analysis, and problem-solving skills. Some questions allow the use of calculators, some don’t.
Moreover, each section has two further modules.
Since it is an MCQs based exam, the first module in each section has a combination of easy, medium and hard questions. However, the complexity of the second module in each case depends on your child’s performance in the first module of both sections.
How is the SAT scored?
The SAT is scored as a sum of individual scores from both sections. The maximum SAT score can be 400 with each section containing 200 points or 1600 in case where each section contains 800 points. Another important point to remember is that there’s no negative marking in SAT.
The desired SAT score for any college/university depends on the institute’s admission policy and merit. Therefore, careful research regarding SAT eligibility score is necessary before applying for any university.
