Wait, what? You too find it hard studying daily or let’s be true, are you too lazy? That’s okay, we share the same secret. It is a healthy habit to spot and accept our mistakes along with our bad study patterns but that’s not where it ends.
Because, come on you can’t fly a plane perfectly just because you went through an all-nighter watching and learning how to fly.
But there’s a better way out. In case you don’t wish to miss it, read till the end!
Here’s what pulling an all-nighter looks like
Have you ever heard a gardener saying he planted a seed and the next day it grew into a plant? Just because he gave it all the water and sunlight it needed on one day and so it grew.
No right?
This is exactly what happens when we don’t study daily and leave the tasks for the last night. You might have a strong memory; you might be able to grab things quick and fast and you might pass that one subject (which fortunately happens as well) but ask yourself;
a. Does this really help you?
b. Or does it give you satisfaction that you learned something?
c. Or taking long term learning into account, is this habit going to benefit you?

No, because our minds are lazier than us. They keep this information temporarily and once you take your exam, chuff it’s gone. Imagine getting a job in an industry as an engineer and you can’t solve a real-life problem because you studied last night and it all went away. Absolute shame and guilt!

But why does it happen?
There are many reasons behind not finding it interesting to study daily. But let’s be honest, it is not always about things being interesting and not all good things in life are fun.
The most common reason behind not studying daily is when we are not clear about our goals and academic choices. You won’t see a high achiever delaying tasks for the last night because he is there to achieve whatever he is there for.
Being clear and focused about what we want from our academics is very important. Knowing if you are there just to get through it or ACTUALLY grow through it academically, professionally and personally is integral.
Apart from this, there are many other reasons as well such as;
a. Delaying the most difficult tasks for later.
b. Not catching up with lecture revisions.
c. Being too overconfident about doing tasks at the last minute.
d. Being a poor time manager.
e. Prioritizing tasks based on instant gratification rather than what actually matters.
f. Being too distracted often by bad habits e.g. prolonged screen time etc.
No matter what, “Hard work beats talent, each time!”

It is the irony of the traditional quotations and cliches we often hear that they always end up being true. This is why when I repeat, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” I mean it.
You must be wondering if we already know all of this, instead tell us how to start. I get you.

The only way to start doing it…
First of all, take a seat. Secondly, promise me you’ll actually work upon it especially when you are not motivated enough. Life is about discipline; motivation catches up later. And thirdly, listen to me.
| Take out time EVERYDAY. |
It is not as simple as it looks but highly rewarding once mastered.
I repeat, take out time every day. It can be 30 minutes, an hour or so. It is all about giving it its due time and see, how the results unfold. This practice won’t only help you in academics but it will teach you discipline. It will let you taste what a good routine looks like.
We miss out on a lot of things in our life because we couldn’t find time for them. But just pause and imagine you sitting one day telling this to your grandchildren, “I couldn’t excel in life just because I couldn’t find time for it.” Silly, yeah?
Start slow, start small but START. I hope this helps you overcome this very common barrier of our academic life. Fight this traditional practice of pulling all-nighters, understand your reasons and then try working on them one at a time.
